Pana Sankranti is celebrated as Odia New Year in every year and Baisakha is the 1st month or initial month in Odia Calendar. Each year ends with Chaitra Masa in which a famous festival Chaiti Punei is celebrated.

You may wonder that Baisakha may be January or not. The answer is no. Baisakha Masa falls in between April and May month means last half of April to first half of May. In such manner the last Chaitra Masa means in between of March to April.
